New AAG report on Post-Polio Syndrome

Few Australians understand the legacy of Polio, and services are ill-equipped to meet the needs of people ageing with Post-Polio Syndrome.

A recent report captures the findings from a pre-conference workshop hosted by AAG, Post Polio Victoria and Celebrate Ageing in November 2022. The workshop was the result of advocacy work and strategic collaboration between AAG, Post Polio Victoria and Celebrate Ageing. Participants included Polio survivors, carers, researchers, service providers, peak bodies and advocacy groups.

Recognition at last: People ageing with Post-Polio Syndrome describes the challenges experienced by those ageing with Post-Polio Syndrome and recommends ways service providers could better support their needs. The report is available on the AAG website.

AAG 500 blog: On the lookout for predators

In our July AAG 500 blog, we look at the effect of 'publish or perish' on publishing practices, and share tips for avoiding the growing underbelly of predatory conferences. It's frightening to read that thousands of fraudulent conferences are being promoted around the world every day.

We invite members to contribute to the AAG 500 blog. Contact us if you'd like to suggest a topic or write a piece.

Launch of Frailty Nexus peer forum

AAG is proud to be a member of the Australian Frailty Network (AFN), based at the University of Queensland. The AFN's vision is to deliver a national response to frailty and help all Australians age well.

AFN recently launched The Frailty Nexus, a peer forum for research students and early-career academics with an interest in frailty. It will facilitate targeted training, upskilling, networking and coaching to build capacity in multidisciplinary and translational frailty research. Its design was informed from the input of over 50 research students and early-career academics who completed a survey indicating their preferences for how the forum would operate.

The Frailty Nexus will include a monthly Zoom-based education session on the third Wednesday of every month.

We encourage AAG members with an interest in frailty to join the mailing list and access shared resources. Enquiries can be directed to [email protected].
